Lançado no último Record Store Day, no passado 21 de Abril, e antevisto pelos quatro já lançados EPs em colaboração, The Flaming Lips and Their Heady Fwends é o nosso destaque freeze! desta semana.
Depois de Embryonic, em 2009, e de uma passagem pelo Dark Side of the Moon no mesmo ano, os Flaming Lips regressam aos álbuns, trazendo consigo uma bagagem cheia de colaborações.
Um álbum que viaja da agressividade vocal de Ke$ha a uma desconfortante tranquilidade com Bon Iver ou com Erykah Badu, passando pelo delírio psicadélico dos Tame Impala ou dos Prefuse 73, ou pela euforia de Yoko Ono ou de Nick Cave, sempre com o selo de mestre da banda de Wayne Coyne.

Chegam-nos de Melbourne, Australia, e na bagagem trazem o seu oitavo álbum. Apresentado no passado dia 21 de Fevereiro, o novo álbum dos Dirty Three - Toward the Low Sun - vagueia por terrenos pouco comuns, e caminha na linha a que este trio nos tem vindo já a habituar. Talvez desde logo deva ser dito que a música ouvida é trabalho de edição de prolongadas sessões de improvisação, numa envolvência tanto psicadélica e instintiva como conceptual e trabalhada. Com Czukay e Schmidt como ex-pupilos de Stockhausen, Liebezit vindo do jazz e Damo Suzuki como fruto de uma cultura japonesa emergente e da vivência de artista de rua, os Can continuam o projecto deixado em Sountracks, quando Damo substitui a voz de Malcolm Mooney e inicia uma nova etapa da banda germânica.

Com a primeira batida de Jaki Liebezeit em Paperhouse o ouvinte é desde logo absorvido pela interdimensionalidade transcendental da música de Tago Mago, numa explosão instrumental marcada pelos delírios vocais de Damo Suzuki. Por um lado, o inicial de Paperhouse ou Oh Yeah, mantêm-se sonoridades relativamente familiares, num registo radicalmente diferente ao que era feito até então, conjugando genialmente esta familiaridade no formato com a abertura de novos espaços texturais dentro da música, a exploração de cada sonoridade, a improvisação, e todo este movimento kraut que germinava na Alemanha. É Halleluwah que, com 18 minutos, fecha um primeiro disco sempre marcado pela mântrica bateria de Liebezeit, imparável, fio condutor do trabalhado devaneio que cada um dos cinco membros constrói e exterioriza, bem como da cuidada exploração de Czukay aos comandos da produção.

Por outro, e embora sempre integrado numa continuação lógica, Augmn abre o segundo disco como se de uma inversão de Halleluwah se tratasse, lembrando o "Om" dos transas orientais mergulha numa densidade sonora que acaba por estender-se ao restante álbum. Augmn lembra mesmo uma viagem pelos labirintos do interior da mente, desafiando os limites do som e dos próprios instrumentos, desdobrando o tempo e jogando com ritmos e repetições, tocando os domínios do avant-garde à medida que se transforma em Peking O. Dos tempestuosos últimos minutos deste, ressurge por fim o tom quase baladesco de Bring Me Coffee or Tea, que confortavelmente restabelece a mente ao corpo, relembrando a ritmada progressão inicial, e delineando os traços que, em Ege Bamyasi, definiriam o corpo musical dos Can.

Numa re-edição cuja remasterização só traz benefícios, a Spoon Records junta ainda três gravações ao vivo de Mushroom, Spoon (de Ege Bamyasi) e Halleluwah, evidência da improvisação e da sua enorme capacidade como banda, em viagens musicais de quase 30 minutos sobre um mesmo tema, contribuindo apenas para a consolidação do seu alto estatuto.

40 anos depois, a audição de Tago Mago desperta ainda o sentimento sentido por Julian Cope. Um álbum cuja influência é obrigatória presença em grande parte dos grandes nomes da música desde então. Uma influência trazida não tanto pela sonoridade em concreto, mas pelo modo como, em 1971, os Can olharam, sentiram e trabalharam a música.
