Há muito que El Camino está traçado

Sete são as maravilhas do mundo, sete são os pecados mortais. Em numerologia, o número sete é o número da perfeição. Perfeição é que o que Dan Auerbach e Patrick Carney procuram atingir cada vez que produzem um novo álbum. Foi o que aconteceu mais uma vez com El Camino, o sétimo álbum dos Black Keys.

El Camino, uma referência ao Chevrolet El Camino, foi o nome escolhido para o disco depois do duo ter visto o carro durante a tournée do antecessor Brothers. A produção do novo trabalho ficou a cargo da banda, mas também de Danger Mouse que havia já produzido Attack & Release em 2008 e ainda “Tighten Up”, um dos singles de Brothers.

A abrir El Camino está “Lonely Boy”, o primeiro single do álbum. Se o tema começa com guitarradas distorcidas, sendo que a guitarra é a prima-dona da banda, rapidamente são substituídas pela linha rítmica da bateria. Ao contrário de outros trabalhos dos Black Keys, o sucessor de Brothers pauta-se pela aposta no baixo e em linhas rítmicas muito mais definidas e destacadas que anteriormente. “We were just triying to make a guitar rock album that was more upbeat than anything we’ve ever recorded”, justifica assim Carney este novo El Camino.

A contrastar com “Lonely Boy” está “Little Black Submarines”. Tema dividido em dois actos, se assim lhe podemos chamar, com uma primeira parte mais acústica, que vaticinaria desde logo um momento mais introspectivo e íntimo, rapidamente evolui para algo mais negro e pesado do que tudo o que no álbum existe. Um “dark side of the force”, quiçá. A verdade é que este tema bem poderia ser de uns Led Zeppelin do século XXI.

Se existe banda que nunca desiludiu o seu público mais fiel são os Black Keys. Há muito que traçaram el camino na história do rock. El Camino é só mais uma prova dada.
