Freeze! Sleigh Bells - Reign of Terror

Corria o ano de 2008 quando dois jovens se conheceram num restaurante brasileiro nova-iorquino - ele, antigo guitarrista dos Poison The Well; ela, acompanhada pela mãe, ex-vocalista de um obscuro colectivo teen pop. Derek Miller e Alexis Krauss.

A ascensão foi meteórica - dois anos depois, apadrinhados por M.I.A., chegaram aos palcos com "Treats", um album pop, ofensivamente simples, em que a voz angelical de Alexis contrastava com a rudeza da guitarra de Miller, infinitamente amplificada e acompanha de grossas camadas de distorção. Já o segundo capitulo surgiu na forma de "Reign of Terror", um titulo assustador, todavia um pouco enganador - se toda a estreia era um murro no estômago dado por pompons de cheerleader, neste reino de terror encontramos um equilíbrio até agora desconhecido, entre os hinos noise pop e uma série de baladas, que nada mais revelam que um estudo aprofundado da nobre cultura do pop-rock kitsch do séc. XX.

Mau? Para os puristas, sim - nós chamamos-lhe versatilidade. O que é bom - afinal há mais talento para lá dos hinos "Crowd on the Ground" e "Infinty Guitars". Em suma, bem vindos de volta.

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Blood Lust (2011)

Blood Lust é um álbum de sangue que acaba em morte. Cantam um qualquer ritual que leva a uma morte dolorosa e de um horror sem explicação. Mas, tentando não entrar pelo drama deste trio natural de Cambridge, a voz melódica não nos parece assustar muito. Pelo contrário, atrai-nos como um íman para o epicentro deste sacrifício, executando um processo de captação quer pelos riffs quer pela bateria que marca um compasso aparentemente neutro, mas, essencialmente por um teclado hipnótico.

O senhor Uncle Acid comanda o trio e sabe bem como o fazer, tanto no single entusiasmante I’ll Cut You Down, como na calma faixa bónus que encerra o disco. Não sabemos se o terror instaurado ao longo deste segunda longa-duração é fruto de vivências passadas ou se é por Cambrigde estar no caminho da zona mais negra do Reino Unido, contudo Blood Lust é uma perfeita conjugação entre o psicadelismo mais negro dos 70’s e a actualidade. Não vivem de influências apesar da comum comparação com Witch ou com os Electric Wizard. Este é um dos álbuns que nos escaparam em 2011 mas que merece agora toda a atenção do Fahrenheit 107.9, entre 13 e 17 de Fevereiro, no freeze!.
