The Stranglers, “Giants” ( Coursegood, 2012)

Trinta e cinco anos e dezassete ábuns, são as contas feitas a esta banda britânica. Questionar-se-á certamente o sentido deste regresso. Seis anos depois de “Suite XVI”, “Giants” parece, no entanto, ser muito mais um álbum dos Stranglers do que o anterior. A santíssima trindade teclas/ baixo/ bateria reconhece-se logo na primeira faixa, a produção “suja”, quase primitiva é um traço que prepassa todo o álbum e, com a saída de Paul Roberts, JJ Burnell volta a dar voz, juntamente com Baz Warne, a letras irónicas e inteligentes: os punk rockers que sempre tão bem souberam subtrair-se aos rótulos, continuam, no fim de contas, a ser punk rockers. A destoar, a faixa “Freedom Is insane”, uma vénia aos anos oitenta: para quê ser retro quando se sabe tão bem ser vintage?
