FREEZE - Pere Ubu - Lady from Shangai

Decorria o ano de 1978 quando os Pere Ubu lançaram, respectivamente, em Janeiro e Novembro, "The Modern Dance" e "Dub Housing", albuns que tornaram este colectivo norte americano de Cleveland, Ohio, em estrelas maiores do firmamento pós-punk. Estrelas maiores que estiveram sempre a margem de um estilo, uma vez que a sua obra acabou por tocar no industrial (em certos momentos a voz de David Thomas assemelha-se a de Blixa Bargeld) e art rock.Mas foi a veia avant-garde que os acabou por distinguir da "concorrência".

Em boa verdade, "The Lady from Shangai" não nos oferece nada de particularmente novo, olhando para trás na discografia do grupo. Contudo demonstra que apesar da idade e da experiência que carregam nos ombros, os Pere Ubu não se deixaram ficar por uma forma vencedora, explorando, embora timidamente, novos territórios (para tal basta escutar o bem electrónico tema inicial "Thanks" que sem qualquer tipo de dúvidas melhor representa "Lady from Shangai)
