Destaque "Freeze!": Malkmus & The Jicks - "Wig Out At Jagbags" [Matador Records, 2014]

É já amanhã, dia 7 de Janeiro, que sai dos escaparates o sexto disco de originais de Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, intitulado “Wig Out At Jagbags”. Produzido pela própria banda, em conjunto com o associado e colaborador de longa data de Malkmus e dos Pavement, Remko Schouten, o disco é apresentado pelo single de avanço, “Lariat”, e conta com o vocalista dos Travis, Fran Healy, como convidado.

“Wig Out At Jagbags” foi inspirado pela mudança de Malkmus e respectiva família, de Portland para Berlim, em 2011, onde permaneceram durante 2 anos e antes de haver uma mudança de planos e estes regressarem aos EUA, já em 2013. No entanto, a maioria dos temas presentes no álbum datam já alguns anos antes destas mudanças, por altura da reunião dos Pavement.

São 12 os temas que compreendem “Wig Out At Jagbags”, gravados na zona rural da Bélgica, num estúdio com um “ambiente de quinta”, nas palavras do próprio Stephen Malkmus. Isto numa altura em que vê os “seus” Jicks (actualmente, com Mike Clark na segunda guitarra, Joanna Balme no baixo e Jake Morris atrás do kit de bateria) a ultrapassarem os Pavement no que à longevidade diz respeito.

O trabalho sai (como habitualmente) com o selo da Matador, e pode ser escutado de Segunda a Sexta enquanto destaque “Freeze!”, no Fahrenheit 107.9, entre as 14:00 e as 15:00.
