FREEZE: The Octopus - Supernatural Alliance (Rise Above Records 2018)

The Octopus é o nome da nova aposta da editora britânica Rise Above Records, que no passado dia 30 de Março lançou Supernatural Alliance, o álbum de estreia deste quinteto de Detroit.

Fundados pelo guitarrista J Frezzato e pela vocalista Masha Marjieh, a eles se juntaram Matt O’Brien no baixo, Chuck Burns na bateria e Adam Cox nos teclados. O som dos The Octopus pode ser descrito como um rock psicadélico pesado, de inspiração no final na década de 60 e inícios de 70, com os Black Sabbath ou os Blue Öyster Cult a surgirem como referências. Mas apesar do toque assumidamente retro, a marca do nosso tempo está bem presente nos floreados desenhados pelos sintetizadores em fundo, cujo complemento às guitarras lembra mais os trabalhos dos Ghost ou dos Black Mountain.

Comparações à parte, Supernatural Alliance é um álbum composto de vários temas enérgicos, relativamente curtos e diretos ao assunto, oscilando entre a sonoridade potente e ominosa de “The Center” e a delicadeza de “All the Love”. Dificilmente se poderia pedir melhor introdução a estes estreantes The Octopus.
