Freeze! The Kills - Blood Pressures (2011)

Blood Pressures é o mais recente disco do forte duo The Kills. Três anos depois de Midnight Boom, que popularizou ainda mais o trabalho da bela Alison Mosshart e de Jamie Hince, chega ao público mais um álbum pela Domino Records.

Não tão sexual como o último álbum, os The Kills provam com este Blood Pressures que conseguem trazer sempre algo novo até aos seus seguidores, com temas mais calmos e diria até mais "românticos". Com temas como Wild Charms, interpretada pelo senhor Jamie Hince, com todo o seu charme e tranquilidade, a Last Goodbye, uma canção que parece sofrida pela própria Alison, apercebemo-nos realmente que um bom disco de rock também precisa de baladas. Em Future Starts Slow e no single Satellite, lançado em Janeiro, ouvimos uns clássicos The Kills, a guitarra continua a mesma e as duas vozes fazem-nos começar a dançar e querer saber as letras.
Talvez falte aqui a força e revolta de temas como Fuck the People (Keep On Your Mean Side, 2003) ou de No Wow (No Wow, 2005) ou mesmo a vontade de nos pormos em "trajes menores", como pode acontecer a quem ouve U.R.A. Fever (Midnight Boom, 2008), mas ao mesmo tempo temos em Blood Pressures grandes temas e como sempre, bastante coerência em todo o álbum.

Um disco elegante que prova a estabilidade do duo e que Alison, entre novos álbuns com os Dead Weather, ainda não se esqueceu do amigo Jamie e dos seus The Kills.

Blood Pressures, para ouvir em destaque até sexta-feira no Fahrenheit 107.9, entre as 14h e as 16h.

Smoke Ring for My Halo é o segundo disco de Kurt Vile editado através da Matador e, na verdade, o quarto longa-duração deste artista vindo de Filadélfia. É, ainda, o álbum que finalmente o demarca de outros artistas independentes que acabam por cair no esquecimento e lhe traz o reconhecimento tanto da crítica como dos meios de comunicação - pese embora o facto de Vile nunca ter passado despercebido e possuir já o seu grupo de fãs. De facto, diz-se, por exemplo, que Kim Gordon assumiu que o disco anterior do músico, Childish Prodigy, era um dos seus guilty pleasures (guilty, segundo a própria, porque não conseguia parar de o ouvir) e o líder dos Dinosaur Jr. J. Mascis, colocou-o entre os 5 guitarristas “a ouvir” numa lista publicada no Guardian. Mais: os Animal Collective, curadores da edição deste ano do festival All Tomorrow’s Parties, convidaram o artista a tocar por terras britânicas já no mês que vem.

Ao contrário de um mais ruidoso e crú Childish Prodigy, este novo disco traz-nos um Kurt Vile mais limpo, mais polido. Este registo mais melódico não é necessariamente mau, muito pelo contrário. Pela primeira vez, somos tentados a ouvir verdadeiramente o que este americano tem a dizer e, por isso, este Smoke Ring for My Halo torna-se um álbum mais pessoal, que nos permite entrar numa esfera mais privada do artista. Ou, assim, nos ilude.
